Music Interviews: Rakim: The MC Reveals His 'Seventh Seal'

"Some rappers that may have been a little more conscious when they came out — they're a little more party-rap right now," he says. "We gotta let hip-hop grow. We gotta let it go through its different phases throughout the different places that's accepting it. But I feel: Certain places, like New York, we need to keep our integrity and make sure that it's doing that thing that caught the world's ear in the beginning." 'The God MC'

Jay Z Concert @ UCLA
Hey yung world... what the business is?? I was in LA this past weekend for the Jay Z concert @ UCLA and when I tell you that the experience was a memorable one -I think that would be an understatement!
From the offset of the opening act performances - including J. Cole, Wale and N.E.R.D (w/ a special appearance by Lupe Fiasco) - you could definitely feel the energy and anticipation of the thousands of fans in attendance who eagerly awaited the arrival of "Yung Hova!"
An incredible night! Once the giant clock on the screen read 0:01... we all knew that the time had come. It was time for the "Jigga Man" himself to make his entrance. So all the lights go down and through a small opening in the floor of his immense stage set-up he emerges. Nothin but diamond signs in the air as far as the eyes could see, then all of a sudden.... loud blaring horns and the distinct chant from a voice all 2 familiar... "Na Na -Na Na -Na Na -Na Na- Only Rapper 2 rewrite history w/out a pen No ID on the track let the story begin"..... begin -begin -begin. Those guitar riffs are so maniac as is, but then 2 hear that shit live..... oh boy!
Probably the biggest notable highlight of the night was when Yung H-O brought out and unexpected guest to sing the Blueprint III anthem "Run This Town." - Rhianna was definitely in the building doin it waaaay big in all black tights, black riding boots, black furry vest and "All Black Everything!" To wind things down properly Jay brought back up BBC skateboard P to do "So Ambitious" and ended everything w/ "Forever Yung!"
This more than memorable concert was definitely one 4 tha books! It's ya boy! Super shout out 2 my cuzo Khari and his girl Sascha 4 having me out there and doing it waaaay big... also shout out 2 the big homie Marlin Griffin (my guy!)- Definitely Stolen Moments in Time....
Peace & Luv-

Books: Eating Animals| By Jonathan Safran Foer
Eating AnimalsBy Jonathan Safran Foer
The writer of the novels Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close might not seem like an obvious choice to write a book about the ethics and economics of eating meat, but Jonathan Safran Foer found himself examining the issue closely once he became a dog owner. In Eating Animals, he considers the philosophical underpinnings of meat-eating, goes out on visits to factory farms to check out the issues for himself, and ultimately asks readers to consider their own choices against the backdrop of the way modern food production actually works.
I liked it. It's part memoir, part investigative journalism — a departure from what Foer's done in the past. But he still uses a novelist's pen. It's very well-researched; for every four pages I think there's one page of footnotes. Foer studied philosophy, so there's a philosophical tone — a kind of conversation with himself in which the reader is a fly on the wall. But it's not preachy. It didn't turn me into a vegetarian, but it certainly made me think about it.— Guy Raz, host, Weekend All Things Considered

When the walls come tumblin' down!
When I first saw the picture of the Omega's plot on the ground surrounded by rubbish.... I felt "a-way", I really can't describe my feelings but I felt something. Anyone who attended or visited Grambling State University in the late 80's or the 90's will surely remember the "Hill" which was the area allocated for Gamma Gamma chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Grambling has removed all student organizations from the campus for beautification purposes. I have asked around and this appears to be a growing trend at HBC's, but what is the symbolic meaning? What is the current state of Historically Black Colleges and Universities? The New York times has reported that colleges and universities of all kinds across the country are facing shrunken endowments, decreased giving, government cutbacks, and many have reduced their payroll and list of classes. Historically black institutions have two significant disadvantages when it comes to weathering hard times: smaller endowments, which mean heavier reliance on tuition and fees, and a higher proportion of disadvantaged students who are now facing a credit crunch when they apply for loans.
I fully understand that removing of some plots are minor in the greater scheme of things but it's a sign that times are changing. Which leads me to ask the question is there a need for individual sororities and fraternities? Here's a thought...why not have one organization and embrace our heritage instead of the greeks? The soro/frat finding fathers and mothers we're progressive thinkers and would more then likely smile if that decision was made. After all isn't it about progress? Shouldn't we evolve with the times? if things stayed the same Obama would not be leader of the "free" world! In addition this would be a financially sound move that could assist with financial endowments. But hey what do I know......it's only what I was thinking at the time.

Did You Know? Sigma Pi Phi (the Boule)
,
Sigma Pi Phi is generally considered to be the first African-American Greek-lettered organization. Sigma Pi Phi was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 15, 1904. The fraternity quickly established chapters (referred to as "member boules") in Chicago, IL and then Baltimore, MD. The founders included two doctors, a dentist and a physician. When Sigma Pi Phi was founded, black professionals were not offered participation in the professional and cultural associations organized by the white community. Sigma Pi Phi has over 5,000 members and 112 chapters throughout the United States and the West Indies.

I lost my earpiece, I hope y'all hear me: H1N1 Vaccine| Should we take it?
A few years back around the Y2K scare, there was a program on the History channel that kinda freaked me out. It was a fictional scenario about a Smallpox Pandemic. It covered how the U.S. would quarantine neighborhoods, how the vaccine would be distributed, and how individuals would respond to the vaccine. I saw this nearly ten years ago but it has stuck with me.Currently in Georgia small amounts of the H1N1 vaccine are being allocated by the CDC at this time. Additional supply is anticipated over the next weeks and months. But what actually is the Vaccine?
The new H1N1 vaccine will be made using innoculated (to communicate a disease to a living organism by transferring its causative agent into the organism) eggs. The viruses used in the manufacturing process are dead, which means they cannot sicken people who are vaccinated, but will help them build immunity to live viruses
The 2009 H1N1 nasal spray flu vaccine — a vaccine made with live, weakened viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for "live attenuated influenza vaccine").
Currently there have been no reported deaths in the US from the swine flu vaccine. The most common side effects were headache, runny nose and decreased activity. There were no severe reactions.
